One of the best and most convenient methods for treating your addiction to drugs or alcohol is a peer group in your area. A good program offers all of these components along with the medical aspects of drug or alcohol detox and rehab addressed along the way. This is a good opportunity to talk to your child about your concerns for his or her life, health, and safety, and about how entering treatment may be a little scary but it's a step toward a healthier life.

Addiction affects your whole life, including your relationships, career, health, and psychological well-being. If one of these people happens to also be a person who is currently struggling with their own substance abuse issues, it is advised to not have them on the team.

Families must be distinguished from social support groups such as 12‐Step programs—although for some clients these distinctions may be fuzzy. A small but growing body of data, however, has demonstrated the cost benefits of family therapy specifically for substance abuse problems. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration did a study in 2014 and estimated that around 8 million Americans are living with co-existing mental health and substance use disorders.

These programs help patients understand what situations they may face post-treatment, and the programs offer solutions for resisting these temptations. Detoxifying off alcohol or drugs can be extremely difficult and it pays to have medical support. Just because someone you know has not lost everything he or she owns to drugs does not have to mean that he or she does not have a drug addiction problem.

This evaluation process will focus on the psychological, social and physiological signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug use or misuse. When someone you care about is harming himself and his loved ones with drugs or alcohol, an intervention could represent your best shot at turning things around.
